Councillor

Cllr Bev Fernandes

Name: Bev Fernandes

Where are you likely to be seen in the village: Walking our chocador OAD Maya and meeting all her doggie friends. Also at The Hub on a Tuesday afternoon teaching Tai Chi.

Why are you a Parish Councillor: For many years I was a parent representative advocating and working with the then Somerset County Council and other groups to promote inclusive education for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Through this experience (and many more) I realised that through working together it is possible to influence and make changes often for the better. I care about where I live and I want to make sure that our village continues to be a thriving community for everyone to enjoy and so I took the opportunity to join the Parish Council almost four years ago.

When not volunteering as a Parish Councillor what are you likely to be doing: I have been a practitioner of Tai Chi for over 24 years and I teach four classes each week in Kilve, Langport, Wellington and here in Bishop’s Hull. I am also an amateur genealogist and I love researching and discovering the history of my ancestors.

What would people be surprised to know about you: With the wind in my face, I’ve sat in the open cargo door secured by just a strap, in a Sea King helicopter flying over Somerset.
