Councillor

Cllr Paul Hopkins
Where are you likely to be seen in the village:
Walking our 2 dogs, Pickle, an aging rescue poodle and Truffle, a lively young cockerpoo,
around the village.
Why are you a Parish Councillor:
When I became aware of the vacancy on the Parish Council, I did wonder whether
I had the necessary skills to help make a difference. I always like to contribute, having previously been a staff governor at a local secondary school for
16 years and a long spell on the organising committee for the Historic
Vehicle Gathering at Powderham Castle. Now I’m retired I have the time
to get involved in the community rather than just living in the village.
When not volunteering as a Parish Councillor what are you likely
to be doing:
I spend 3 mornings a week at a local gym to keep myself
fit and active. In the warmer months I will be off with my wife and the
dogs in our campervan, exploring the South West. When relaxing you
may find me sitting next to a river or lake, feeding the fish.
What would people be surprised to know about you:
I am a qualified
youth cricket coach and umpire. In the mid 1990s I spent some time as
a volunteer coach at the County Ground as part of the team coaching
the County under 11s.
